Prospect Hill is located just west of the San Antonio city center. This neighborhood is highly walkable with lots of different necessities within walking distance. Most businesses are concentrated along the east side on Zarzamora Street, however, grocers, a pharmacy, cafes, and eateries are spread out in the region.

San Antonio weather is cooperative for pedestrian travel with lots of warm sunny days throughout the year. Summer months can become uncomfortably hot and humid and when walking during heat spells, precautions to stay hydrated need to be taken. Winters are relatively mild and the temperature rarely dips below the freezing mark. Since rain and even sleet occurs in the winter, jackets should be waterproof too. Thunderstorms occur in warmer months  as well and can be severe with high winds, flash floods, and even tornados. Be aware of imminent severe weather and take shelter when it occurs.

Prospect Hill is an older residential urban neighborhood. The streets are laid out mostly in a standard grid pattern and it's not difficult to navigate about the neighborhood. The terrain is level and flat with a few gentle inclines and there are no significant or steep hills to climb.

Homes in the area reflect various architecture depending on when they were developed. They are mostly moderate in size with some older craftsman-style homes and some recently developed bungalows. Private properties are well landscaped with lawns, trees, and gardens.

Residential roads have sidewalks along them providing separate pedestrian paths for dog walkers and their pups. There are two long paved canals winding through the neighborhood roughly in a north-south direction. The southwest side of Prospect Hill features a lake, a creek, and a greenway along these waterways. Waterways must be crossed where pedestrian bridges or vehicle bridges with pedestrian ways exist.

Rosedale Park is located on the southwest corner of the community and has softball fields, lighted tennis courts, and a half-mile hard-surfaced walking trail. There is a skatepark and lots of open sports fields here. Some trees are present, however, the park isn't heavily shaded.

Elmendorf Park is located along the shores of Elmendorf Lake. There is an island and a bridge with a walking trail providing access to the island where some lovely shady trees are planted. Much of the park is open and there are sports fields and facilities. A gravel-surfaced walking trail is present in the park and makes a great place to walk your dog. Apache Creek is also located here and extends to the north while the Apache Creek Linear Park runs along its north shore.

Navarro Park is also located nearby and provides two ball diamonds and open fields in the neighborhood for visitors to enjoy.
