Bellevue forest is a suburban residential neighborhood on the far northeast side of Arlington County, Virginia. There are no walkable commercial services in the area, however, residents can reach downtown Washington, D.C. in under half an hour by vehicle and shops and services in central Arlington neighborhoods are only a ten minute drive away.

Pet owners that take their dogs for daily jaunts in the neighborhood should have warm coats, as sub-freezing temperatures during winter require protection from the cold. Footwear with good traction to navigate snow or ice covered walkways, especially where there are hills, is also advised. Rain gear will keep you dry on rainy days. Summers bring humid weather and thunderstorms to the region. You may want to schedule your daily constitution with your pet for times of the day when the heat is not so extreme and when thunderstorms are not likely to be occurring by checking local forecasts frequently.

Bellevue Forest is located west of the Potomac River. The river borders the community on the east with Donaldson Run on the southeast side, Military Road on the southwest, and the Rivercrest neighborhood on the northern border.

This neighborhood is a very exclusive, suburban neighborhood. The region is serene, quiet, and has a country-like a feel. The area was originally developed in 1941, but has undergone development since with homes reflecting a variety of architectures. Houses are large, generously spaced, and set back from roadways with extensive properties and landscaping. Large trees provide plenty of shade to homes, yards, and streets.

The neighborhood is surrounded by natural wooded areas that provide privacy and beautiful greenery on the community's borders. Plenty of wildlife make the surrounding natural areas their home and, occasionally, local critters visit private properties, so ensure your dog is contained and supervised. The terrain is hilly and you will need to climb up and down some grades to get around the region.

On the southeast border of Bellevue Forest, residents can reach the 30-acre Donaldson Run Park. This heavily forested park has a trail system along with a stream. Your dog must remain on a leash in the area and should not play in the water which contains runoff and contaminants that could be harmful to your pet.

The Donaldson Run Trail and White Trail run through the region. This hiking path is a 1.8-mile trail loop which connects to the Potomac Heritage Trail along the river. The Potomac Heritage Trail and its connected systems will eventually have over 700 miles of hiking paths! That should be enough for even the most energetic hiker and pooch!

To the north, Glebe Road Park provides another beautiful greenway with some sports fields and facilities within easy reach. There are lighted athletic courts here for nighttime use. Plenty of nature trails, picnic sites, and drinking fountains make this a desirable location for a stroll with your pup.
