If you are looking to step back in time and experience Seattle in its glory, North Admiral is the place to go. It is the oldest part of West Seattle and is home to one of the most popular beaches. Despite its intense popularity, it has managed to hold onto its hometown feel, making it a great place to go for a stroll with your pup.

The area is not all residential and you will find a large retail sector in the central part of the neighborhood with a wide range of homes and multi-family dwellings. Your furry friend has not been forgotten either as you will find everything you need to take good care of your companion. This area is also very popular in the summer, so it is well stocked with eateries and small stores.

The weather is nothing to keep you from enjoying your walks. Your biggest roadblock will be the rain and wind. Being on a peninsula, the winds can get a bit heavy, at times.

The terrain in terms of hills is mixed in North Admiral. With water on three sides, you will certainly have plenty of hills, but there are also places to walk through this neighborhood that are not quite as difficult if you are still a beginner and need some time to work up to the more challenging terrain. Because the area ranges from flat to very hilly, this might be the perfect neighborhood to drive around and plan out a route before you head out.

Of course, you can also head down to Alki just outside of North Admiral. The area is quite flat and the Alki Trail goes around two sides of North Admiral, offering nice level ground to walk on.

The neighborhood is old, but the streets and sidewalks are well cared for. Depending on what area of North Admiral you are in, you may encounter some heavy traffic. Be on the lookout for busy roads and crosswalks to use to stay safe.

There are several different parks in the area to choose from and the most popular spot in West Seattle is the beach that resides on two sides of the neighborhood just outside of its boundaries. A long trail runs along the sand and there are plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat. The beach provides some varied terrain, so it makes a great place to walk as well, as does trail that runs along the beachfront.

If you grow tired of sand and pavement, you might want to head over to the Schmitz Preserve Park on the west side of North Admiral. 53 acres of old growth forest and a number of trails running through the area make this a special place to visit with your inquisitive pup.

Hamilton Viewpoint Park has some nice wooded areas as well and has one of the best scenic views in the area. It is up at the northernmost tip of North Admiral and looks over the Puget Sound.
