The right urban neighborhood can be a delight when there is a combination of a great vibe, convenient access to the big city, and lots of places to enjoy green spaces. Wallingford in Seattle offers all of the above with long time commercial businesses such as restaurants and corner stores and great places to take your pup when it is time to get out and walk.

Wallingford comes with all of the convenience from places to get your pet's favorite foods and toys to a place to take care of all of their medical needs. There are plenty of places for dog moms and dads to stop as well, whether they are looking for their favorite cup of coffee or wanting a bite to eat.

Seattle not only has a great vibe, but the weather allows for a lot of outdoor time as well. Mild temperatures and rare snow ensure that winters are mostly walkable albeit with a need to dodge rain showers sometimes.

There are hills in Wallingford, but when compared to other areas in the city, the hills are, for the most part, not terribly steep. It is entirely possible to plan out a walk where your hill climbing is kept to a minimum. The good news is that when you and your pup are used to walking the flatter terrain in the area, there are plenty of hills to take your walks to the next level and ensure that you and your pup are as healthy as possible.

The area has a lot of residential but the busier roads  along the perimeters and on 45th Street have a lot of traffic and businesses in them. There are residential areas that are quiet enough that you can take a nice, long and uninterrupted walk. Expect sidewalks throughout the neighborhood as most of them are quite wide and have generous shoulders where you can let Fido wander and explore a bit.

Wallingford is blessed with plenty of greenways and spaces to take your pup for some play time or to walk where there is more grass and trees and less cars. At the south end of the neighborhood, you will find Gas Works Park and the Burke Gilman Trail.

Gas Works Park is on the water and has plenty of paths to wander. The Burke Gilman Trail, also called the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop, runs right through this area and goes on for miles in both directions. Because it cuts through some urban areas, you can expect lots of lights and crosswalks, but once you get out of the University District and Wallingford, the trail allows for a bit more unimpeded walking.

Up further to the north, you will find Wallingford playfield and Meridian Playground, both of which have paths to walk and plenty of grassy fields to play in.
