Garden Beach is a large community consisting of several neighborhoods running from East Central Avenue on the northern edge of the area to Canaveral Boulevard and Sailfish Avenue at the south end. The area borders North Atlantic to the west and Ridgewood to the east. The homes here are a blend of townhouses, condos, and single-family homes. While there are a few open lots on Surf Drive, the rest of the community is heavily built-up.
There is a small family grocery store on the corner of Canaveral Boulevard and North Atlantic. In the same shopping center is a restaurant and deli. However, if you are planning to do your weekly shopping, you should plan to drive south on North Atlantic to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway. Along this stretch of road on both sides of the river is everything you need ranging from a Walmart to the stores in the Merritt Island Mall.

East Central Boulevard tends to be a bustling stretch of road, as does North Atlantic during the day with both morning and afternoon rush hours adding to the mess. During the school year, you can add the buses to the mix which can make for a couple of hours where traffic is congested and noisy. These are not the best times of day to take your dog walking along either of these roads.
Within the residential streets, rush hours are busy, but the rest of the day tends to be much quieter and most of the streets have sidewalks for you and your dog to use. The flat terrain in this area makes it doubly easy to get out and about for some exercise as you shouldn't have to deal with any hikes or hills. However, you may run into the occasional pedestrian, so keep your pup close to your side and keep an eye out for any others using the sidewalks.

If you are more interested in taking your dog to a fenced-in dog park, the closest one is in Cocoa Beach. The fenced-in area covers a full 32,000 square feet that has been split into two areas. There is also a fenced-in entrance with a waterhose you can use at the end of play time to cool your dog down and rinse off the sand and dust.
