Harbor Heights is a large single-family housing community located on North Atlantic Avenue, just south of the Villages of Seaport. Beyond this point to the north is the port, the Port Ministry, and all of the ancillary support buildings for the numerous cruise lines whose ships go in and out all year round. The developers created an elongated figure-eight shape with the one road leading through the neighborhood to help slow traffic down.
Although North Atlantic does have a few small businesses and restaurants this far north, you won't be able to find everything you need here. The good news is that the West Cocoa Beach Causeway is only a few minutes to the south. Here, you should be able to find just about everything you need. Alternatively, you can go north on A1A and over the causeway. You will find a Walmart Supercenter in north Merritt Island along with a few other amenities!
What is the terrain like in Harbor Heights?
The streets within the community form an interesting figure-eight which allowed the developer to maximize use of the land while still giving each house a decent yard. Traffic within Harbor Heights is only busy during the morning and afternoon rush hours, but since it is only local traffic within the neighborhood, rush hours are more like rush minutes. The only thing you have to worry about in terms of traffic are the school buses during the school year and some of the other pedestrians who may catch you unawares.
There are no sidewalks within Harbor Heights, so you should try not to plan your walks during the short rush hour periods as you'll have to share the road with too many cars. Once the cars have gone, the kids come out to play, which can slow your walks down. Exercise caution if your dog is particularly skittish or choose to visit one of the nearby parks instead!
