Banana River Estates covers a vast area of Cocoa Beach along North Atlantic Avenue. Most of the homes here are condominiums and townhouses. One condominium complex sits on the Banana River and has a small lake fed by the river in the middle of it. Along with condominiums, there are several townhouse communities and a few businesses. The condos all have plenty of grass for you and your dog to walk on. Just be sure you keep your dog on a leash and pick up any messes they leave behind!
When it comes to access to different shopping amenities, there is a Publix supermarket in the Cornerstone Plaza along with several small stores and restaurants. In the supermarket, you will find groceries for your family and a large selection of premium dog foods as well as a bakery and deli. If you need more than this, you're in for a short drive south to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway.
Anywhere you live within Banana River Estates, there are plenty of roads to walk your dog on, but no sidewalks. Be sure you keep your dog on a short leash to protect them from traffic as it tends to be busy during most of the day with an emphasis on both morning and evening rush hours. Despite the flat terrain, you may still run into a few obstacles as you explore such as parked cars and other pedestrians.
There are sidewalks on both sides of North Atlantic Avenue the two of you can use if you need more room to stretch your legs. If you choose to take your walks here, you'll want to keep your pup close to your side for safety. Depending on where you live within the community, you may find that going out early in the morning when there is minimal traffic is when you can best enjoy your walks together.
No matter where you live within Banana River Estates, there are usable areas of grass where you and your dog can roam around and get in a little exercise. But why settle for lawns when you can walk to the beach in ten minutes or less? The coastal regions of Cocoa Beach are dog-friendly during the hours of 6 to 10 AM and 5 to 7PM. During Daylight Savings Time, the evening hours are extended to 9 PM. You'll want to keep some waste bags on you to keep this area clean!
On the other hand, if you prefer somewhere where your dog can run around without the need to be on a leash, then it's only a ten-minute drive to the south. As part of the Lori Wilson Park, there is a fenced-in dog run with separate areas for large and small breeds. There is even water here for the pups, plenty of shade, and chairs for you to sit on once you're ready for a break.
