Wag! Walkers know Garden Bay Colony
Garden Bay Colony is a small neighborhood that includes four upscale houses and a large condo sitting directly on the east bank of the Banana River. Directly to the east of the community is North Atlantic Avenue, one of the most important north-south routes through town. Nearby is a small light industrial area and, to the south, there are more hotels and condominiums.
For shopping amenities, you are less than a mile south of the West Cocoa Beach Causeway where you will find a Winn-Dixie supermarket in the Bealls Outlet shopping center. There are several other stores along the causeway on this side of the Banana River. If you take a drive over the causeway into Merritt Island, you will also find the nearest Walmart Superstore, and then, the Merritt Island Mall.
The beach is a fifteen-minute walk to the east and is open to dogs during specific hours of the day.
What is the terrain like in Garden Bay Colony?
Within the Seminole Lane cul-de-sac, you should expect to see a fair amount of traffic at all hours of the day as there are two large condominium complexes and one major hotel on this street along with single-family homes. Fortunately, on the north side of the road, there is a sidewalk for you and your dog to use that extends down the flat terrain, making it easy to traverse. Seminole Lane is very short, but if you cross to the other side of North Atlantic, you will find a wide paved walking trail that wanders alongside the road for miles in either direction.
The one thing missing here are single-family residential areas where you and your dog could go walking in relative peace. Since you will be walking next to heavy traffic, you should use a short leash as it will give you more control of your pup in the event something should startle them.
How many greenways are there in Garden Bay Colony?
The beach is literally across the street from Garden Bay Colony and it should take you and your dog less than fifteen minutes to walk there from your home. The nearest public access is a little to the south between the Windward East Condominium and Sydney Fischer Park. The park itself offers a vast area of grass for you and your pooch to romp around on.
Alternatively, you could stroll
past the park and head straight for the beach. The beaches from 4th Street down to 16th Street are open to dogs during a few specific hours in the day. The two of you can hike for as many miles as you like between these two
points, but do remember that no matter how far you go, you will always
have to hike back! Only go as far as you know you
will be able to handle. No
one wants to have to call a taxi to take them home!
