Top dog walkers in High Point
Wag! Walkers know High Point
High Point is a large community of upscale homes, one hotel, and a service station. Located on the north side of Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway and between US-1, the neighborhood sits at the intersection of two major highways that feed the cruise lines in Port Canaveral. With cruise season virtually year-round, the traffic never seems to let up, meaning everyone in the family will need to get used to the noise.
The good news is that, despite the traffic situation, you can be at your local Walmart Supercenter in around ten minutes. You can find just about anything you need in this store, including having the oil in your car changed. On the other side of the road are an ALDI discount supermarket, a strip mall and a couple of places to eat. Around the corner are a Publix supermarket and several other stores and restaurants for you and your family to check out.
What is the terrain like in High Point?
Oddly, for a community of upscale houses, no one thought to put sidewalks in anywhere! You and your dog will be relegated to walking on the streets. This will take some careful timing during the week. You have morning and evening rush hours to contend with which can be a bit tricky, especially if you're out and about while other pedestrians are also navigating the roads.
You can also go to the eastern end of the neighborhood where Indian River Drive meets the riverbank. Along most of the waterway, the grass is wide enough for the two of you to walk safely away from traffic. You might find you can walk along the road during most days without much issue! The best time of day for you and your dog to go out for your long walks is early in the morning before the Florida heat really sets in.
How many greenways are there in High Point?
On the west end of the community and on the other side of the gas station, there is a vast area of dirt, trails, grass, and trees for you and your dog to make good use of. The one thing you need to watch out for is dirt bikes and ATVs tearing around on the tracks. There are several acres of woods and scrubs on the other side of US-1, but getting to them can be difficult, at best. You can access some of them from the Walmart parking lot thanks to the road leading into them!
If you don't mind dealing with the traffic on A1A which is also the causeway to Merritt Island and Port Canaveral, you can go to Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary. Parking is roadside, but there is a trail that runs along the top of the waterway. It can be a challenging hike in some places, but nothing you and your dog can't handle!
