Highland Park is a small residential neighborhood running along both sides of Highland Street between US-1 and the Indian River. Most of the homes in the area are large, well-established houses and there is one apartment building that sit on Forrest Avenue.
US-1 is one of the busiest highways in town and brings with it a significant amount of traffic noise and air pollution.
For your shopping convenience, there is a Walmart Supercenter, a Publix Supermarket, and the Merritt Island Mall, all within a ten-minute drive in various directions. If you prefer to shop for pet supplies in a pet store, MYDOGSWAG is less than five minutes to the south on the corner of Forrest Avenue and Center Street, or there is a Pet Supermarket over on Merritt Island. There are also plenty of places to eat within driving distance, but less than a ten-minute walk away is Papasan's Vietnamese Café. This restaurant is a local favorite and serves up some spectacular food.

In this neighborhood, you get to choose between walking on the sidewalk that runs for miles in either direction or crossing the street to enjoy the grassy river bank on the other side. Although the cement sidewalk might make for a slightly less challenging walk, it still comes in handy if the grass on the other side is still soaked after a Florida downpour.
The grass, on the other hand, is typically a better choice as it's far gentler on your dog's paws. Along with not being rough like cement, during the warmer months of the year, paved surfaces can quickly reach temperatures that can easily cause burns and discomfort.
