Wag! Walkers know Hodges Sunnysice
Hodges Sunnysice is known as an oddly named neighborhood. On the west side of the highway, there are two apartment buildings and a large area of grass and trees blocking your view of the FEC railroad tracks. On the other side of this six-lane highway, the area is residential with single-family homes on large lots.
When you need supplies for the family, including your favorite fluffball, there is a Publix supermarket two miles to the south on US-1 where you can buy food for everyone in the house. They also carry a selection of premium dog foods for your pup. If you prefer to shop in a pet supply store for the things your pooch needs, MYDOGSWAG is less than five minutes away on Forrest Avenue and, as another option, a Tractor Supply is two miles up the road where you can find brands like Blue Buffalo if your pooch is particularly picky.
What is the terrain like in Hodges Sunnysice?
The terrain here is flat and bustling with US-1 splitting the neighborhood. On both ends of the community, the streets tend to be significantly quieter. Unfortunately, US-1 is a major highway running from Key West up the east coast until it reaches its northern end at Fort Kent, Maine. No matter what time of day or night it happens to be, there is traffic on this stretch of road.
If possible, you and your dog should stick to walking deeper into the residential areas on both sides of the highway. Most have sidewalks the two of you can use, which is much safer than walking on the roads. The best time of day to take your pup out for long walks is early in the morning before rush hour. Not only will you have less traffic to deal with, but the temperature and humidity levels are lower, making for more comfortable walks.
How many greenways are there in Hodges Sunnysice?
Across Washington Avenue and in the western half of the community is the John Lee Smith Recreation Center with a public swimming pool, a basketball court, playgrounds, and an all-grass softball field that is fenced in. You and your dog can probably get away with playing here as long as they are on a leash and you have waste bags handy! The rec center is also within walking distance.
On the eastern side of US-1, the nearest parks are the Cocoa Riverfront, Taylor, and Lee Wenner Parks. Each is connected to the other and has its own distinct features. Taylor Park has the playground, public restrooms, and lots of shade. Riverfront Park has vast areas of grass for the two of you to run about on and Lee Wenner Park offers more grass to play on, but is home to a picnic pavilion, access to the boardwalk, and a public boat ramp along with parking lots large enough to fit a vehicle and boat trailer!
