Wag! Walkers know East Highlands Daytona
East Highlands is a neighborhood of single-family homes located
close to the Volusia Mall and the Halifax Health Medical Center. This is an excellent location that not only
puts you close to the mall and hospital, but to several excellent restaurants as well. You
are only a five-minute drive from the Daytona Beach International Speedway, the
home of NASCAR and the Birthplace of Speed Museum. Better yet, you are no more
than 15 minutes from the pristine white sands of Daytona Beach!
The beach offers the perfect place to enjoy the 90-degree summer weather that residents enjoy all summer long. The good news is that it almost never snows
here, even in January, the coldest month of the year when temperatures are in the
upper 40s and lower 50s. In other words, there aren't many days here when you
can blame the weather for not getting out there and going for a walk with your pooch.
What is the terrain like in East Highlands Daytona?
The area around East Highlands is flat with some of the streets
having sidewalks available and others going without. Don't let this discourage you, however! It just means that you have to be a bit more creative if you want to not
only make your strolls more enjoyable, but
also make sure you get the exercise you need. Remember, a good walk is
more about exercise than it is about finding the perfect potty spot!
Living here, your best bet is to change the blocks you walk around or carefully cross Nova Road over to Cypress
Park where there is at least a little grass for your pup to play on. Since most of
your walks here will be on paved surfaces, remember to keep an eye on your dog's paws. The constant grinding of the pavement can damage them or rub them raw, making it difficult to maintain your walking routine.
How many greenways are there in East Highlands Daytona?
The nearest green space is Cypress Park over on the other side
of S Nova Road. It has walking trails for the two of you to walk on and grass to enjoy. Just remember that your pup must be on a leash at all times and
you'll want to carry bags with you just in case they decide to go potty.
If you
follow S Nova southeast, it will take you
to the intersection with International Speedway Blvd. On the other side of the
intersection is Tuscawilla Park, a modest-sized
park that began life in 1993 as a 65-pin disc golf course with plenty of tall
trees and other obstacles. Today, it is also home to the Daytona Beach Zipline
Adventure, a great zip line ride across the park! Along with this,
the park offers plenty of grass for you to run around on and enjoy
spending plenty of time out in the fresh air and Florida sunshine.
