Hibiscus Park is a tiny neighborhood of single-family homes near Turie T. Small Elementary School and the John H Dickerson Heritage Library. You are also right next door to Campbell Junior High School. There are a few small dog-friendly parks in the area to take your pup for a little bit of fun time and if eating out is one of your favorite pastimes, there are plenty of restaurants nearby including the Chart House, Zappi's Italian Garden, and many others.

You are also only a fifteen to twenty-minute drive from the beach, Daytona International Speedway, the Volusia Mall, and the many nightclubs over on the beachside. You can dock your boat on the Halifax at one of the available slips and then spend all summer long enjoying the 90-degree weather cruising the river. In the winter, you can still enjoy going over to the beach for your walks as the weather here is quite mild.

The terrain around the neighborhood is relatively flat and unexciting. It's given mostly to parking, but there is a small amount of grass where the two of you can play. There is a vacant area of land behind the elementary school that you can use for playtime. However, when it comes to room to take your pup for walks, the only real choice you have without driving anywhere is going to be hitting the sidewalks. You can follow them around different residential blocks, changing your routes and direction frequently.

You should be aware, however, that paved surfaces during the summer months are typically too hot for your pup to walk on safely. During the hotter months, you'll need to take your walks early in the morning before things start heating up. Hold the back of your hand on the paved surface. If you can't keep it there for at least ten seconds, it is too hot for your pup.

The nearest open green space is the Samuel L. Butts Archeological Park on South St. The park is essentially a large lake with a walking path running around it for you to make good use of. The park sits on the site where Samuel L. Butts discovered parts of a Wooly Mammoth from the Ice Age!

Living in this area also offers you access to Tuscawilla Park. This park was opened in 1993 as a 65-pin disc golf course complete with water traps, obstacles, and tall trees. Today, the park is home to Daytona Zipline Adventures and a large area of woods for you and your four-legged friend to go walking in the shade.

No matter where you go, be sure to take plenty of water for you and your pup as it is far too easy to become dehydrated or overheated in that daytime Florida sunshine.
