Wag! Walkers know Reeves
Reeves is a very small section of houses in the Roosevelt Park area of Daytona. The neighborhood consists of only a few single-family homes. Located on the mainland side, the streets are older here and have no sidewalks. For the foodie in you, there are a number of excellent restaurants in the vicinity, but you will have to hop in the car to get to them. The same applies to dog parks, dog-friendly areas, and pet supply stores.
Thankfully, even though Daytona is a large metropolitan area, you never really have to drive very far for most things. On top of this, you never have to worry about icy roads. It never gets cold enough here for this to occur! The coldest month is January with daytime highs in the upper 40s and nighttime lows above freezing. The worst you might have to deal with is a little frost on your windshield in the mornings.
What is the terrain like in Reeves?
The terrain around the Reeves neighborhood is flat and suburban with large yards, lots of shade trees, and, unfortunately, streets without any sidewalks. The best way to deal with trying to keep your dog healthy when you are faced with this situation is to make sure you are wearing something light-colored when walking to make sure you can be easily seen by motorists, especially given the amount of shade in the area.
Once you get out of the immediate neighborhood, there are plenty of sidewalks, but even with these, you need to be careful when the outside temperature is over 75°F. The reason for this is that once the outside temperature is this high and the sun is shining directly down on the pavement, it can be 120°F and will only go up from there. At temperatures this high, the pavement can cause some discomfort and possible burns to sensitive puppy paws. Keep this in mind before venturing out.
How many greenways are there in Reeves?
When it comes to green spaces, there isn't much here with the exception of the lake two blocks to the west. The lake has a footpath running all the way around it that makes for a pleasant place to go walking.
If you are looking for somewhere to go where you can walk on nature trails, it's only a short drive to the Tiger Bay State Forest and Tomoka Wildlife Management Area. The Tiger Bay State Forest covers over 31,000 acres to explore. There are miles of trails for you to utilize throughout your visit. Along with this, you never know what you might see here as there are wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, wood storks, black bears, and many other animals living nearby.
Be sure you keep your pup on a leash to help protect the wildlife here and to keep your dog safe as well. Remember that the wildlife found here is just that: wild!
