Ridgewood Park Kingston sits just south of Mason and Ridgewood Avenues and is a blend of single and multi-family homes as well as several small businesses. With restaurants nearby as well as pet supply stores, living here with your pup should be a lot of fun! The only disadvantage is the proximity of the FEC tracks, but you get used to those after a while.

Another advantage to living here is that Mason Avenue turns into Oakridge Avenue going over the Halifax River to the beachside, making a perfect route over to the beach for an early morning run.

Summers here spend weeks in the 90s, so you need to get out early in the day before the temperature starts going up. On the other hand, you can come just about any time during the winter months as the temperatures stay in the 50s and 60s with the occasional drop into the upper 40s in January.

The terrain here is an interesting blend of urban with large parking lots, single-family homes with suburban-sized yards, and one of the busiest streets in town.

Walking in this part of town can be a bit of a challenge. While there are sidewalks, there is a lot of traffic to deal with. You may find yourself going west into the Kingston area where the neighborhoods are more residential in nature. No matter which way you go, try to keep some variety in your walks to help keep them interesting.

Keep the outside temperature in mind when deciding what time of day to go for your walks. From May through September, concrete and paved surfaces can reach over 120°F which can cause some burns to sensitive paws. Invest in a pair of doggy boots to protect your pal's feet or pick times of day when the ground is cooler to take your walks throughout the neighborhood.

The nearest small park is Sunnyland Park which can be found a couple of blocks to the west. It offers a single baseball field and a grassy area to enjoy. Beyond this, you can go east to the beach or north to Tomoka State Park and Bulow State Park.

On the beach, you get your choice of soft sand that sucks at your feet or wet sand that is hard packed and easy to walk or jog on. Both offer you and your pup a good workout in an amazing and peaceful environment, especially early in the morning.

To the north are Tomoka and Bulow State Parks that together cover almost 8,000 acres. Throughout both parks, you and your dog can enjoy using the many trails to explore the forest or visit the Timucuan Indian village of Nocoroco in Tomoka State Park and what's left of the Bulow Plantation in the Bulow State Park.
