Wag! Walkers know Sutherlands
Sutherlands is a tiny neighborhood on N Ridgewood Ave. close to
the Fairview Ave Bridge. Being this close to the bridge means being only minutes
away from the World's Most Famous Beach and all of the many restaurants and nightclubs
found all up and down A1A. You don't have to drive over to the beachside to eat
out as there are a number of excellent restaurants on this side of the Halifax River.
As for dog-friendly parks and pet supply stores, you should
plan to drive as they are a little too far away for you to walk to.
You would be hard pressed
to find better weather in Central Florida. The summers here stay in the 90s with a few thunderstorms thrown in for good measure. But how does Christmas on
the beach sound? With temperatures in the 50s or even 60s in December, the only white Christmas you are likely
to see is the white sand of the beach.
What is the terrain like in Sutherlands?
Living in this area means dealing with a lot
of paved terrain. Ridgewood and many of
the side streets have sidewalks, but keep
in mind that during the summer months, just about every paved surface in the
city will be too hot for Fido to walk on by early afternoon. The best time of
day to go walking during the hotter months of the year is during the early morning
hours.
No matter what time of
day you plan to take your pup out for a walk, keep a close eye on the pads
on the bottom of their paws. The rough surface of the cement and paved roads can
cause discomfort. On top of this, if you try to take them out for walks in
the middle of the afternoon, the pavement can certainly cause burns.
Be kind and keep your pup's paws in mind every time you take them out for a walk.
How many greenways are there in Sutherlands?
The nearest green space is the grassy area complete with a
walking trail that runs behind the Daytona Beach News-Journal building along
the Halifax River. The park and walking trail run north from City Island to the
other side of E. Fairview and the Fairview Bridge. You can walk on
the paved path while Fido walks beside you in the grass. The fresh air
coming off the Halifax River along with the opportunity to watch the boats cruising
past makes going for walks here very pleasant.
You can also take your pup out on
the island in the river. There is a small amphitheater and plenty of trails for
the two of you to follow along with a dock running out into the water for you
to fish off of. There is plenty of room for both you and your dog to get in plenty
of good healthy exercise on any given day of the year.
