Wood Forest is home to the Lake Forest Apartments and is only a few minutes from tons of great local shopping, including the Volusia Mall. You are also close to Daytona International Speedway, some of the top dining experiences in town, and many of the best nightclubs. The complex is also perfectly located for students at Daytona State College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
For those who like to hang out on the beach, it's only a 10 to 15-minute drive from home! Luckily, for warm weather lovers, you'll find plenty of it living here. Summers tend to spend weeks in the mid-to-upper 90s with humidity to match. The only thing you have to deal with is the occasional rainstorm that only serves to add to the humidity without cooling things down. With winters in the 50s and 60s, there aren't many days you and Fido can't get outside and go for a walk.
The terrain around the complex is pretty open and grassy with two small lakes for you and your pup to enjoy walking around. Although there may not be much in the way of sidewalks for you to use for your daily walks, you can use the grass running all around the building and the access roads to get in the exercise both of you need.
Working with flat terrain can be challenging when it comes to getting in enough exercise to make your walks worthwhile. The good news is that there are several other apartment complexes nearby along with some expanses of woods you can use to add some variety to your walks. Keep in mind that during the summer months, the pavement will be too hot for Fido to walk on safely. Be sure to take your strolls during the early morning hours while things are still cool from the night before.
While the area around Wood Forest contains large areas of forest and woodlands, some of which have walking trails, if you want a fenced in area for your dog to play in, it'll be a short drive to the Community Dog Park at the Halifax Humane Society. Here, you will find two separate sections, one for small dogs and the other for larger ones. Each of the sections has an agility course for you and your pup to work on training and water fountains to ensure they don't become dehydrated. Be sure you use the available bags to clean up after them, ensuring the park remains clean for everyone to use.
Further out to the west lies the 30,000 acres that comprise the Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area. Here, you and your pooch can enjoy hiking along miles of trails while looking for the many different forms of wildlife that call the WMA home.
