Living in Wood Stiles might feel like you are in the center of it all. Being near Mason Avenue and Ridgewood makes it easy to get just about anywhere within the local area in only minutes. If you like to eat out, places like Caribbean Jack's, the Cellar Restaurant, and Zappi's Italian Garden are all close by. As for shopping and pet supply stores, they are all within a ten to fifteen minute drive. There is one small park nearby and another along the bank of the Halifax River.
The beach is a ten-minute drive across the Main Street Bridge which will also take you over to the hottest clubs in town if you like to party the night away. With summer evenings in the 70s, many of the clubs have an outdoor deck on the beach where you can dance and socialize under the stars while listening to your favorite music.
The terrain here is flat, unremarkable, and is much like any other similar area in town. It can feel as though there isn't anywhere to take your pup for walks which could lead to you taking the easy way out by walking the same route every day.
However, if you do this, you won't be getting much out of the areas around you! It doesn't take much to create new walking routes frequently. All this really means is taking different streets, going around a variety of blocks, or even going a different direction than you usually do. With the sheer amount of residential blocks to explore, you have plenty of options!
Remember to keep an eye on the temperature of the pavement during the hottest months of the year. In the hotter months, you'll want to take your walks during the early morning hours before things start heating up.
When it comes to green spaces, the nearest one of any size runs along the west bank of the Halifax River. The walking trail starts on the north side of Mason Avenue and continues along the edge of the river past the News Journal Building and on down to East Orange Avenue. Here, you can take the bridge over to City Island Park where you can carry on around the island using the walking trail. This is a very long walk, but will give you plenty of time together, lots of good, healthy exercise, and a chance to watch the boats sail by out on the Halifax River.
Exercise caution in the summer months as this path can get very hot. Make sure your pup walks on the grass and try to take your walks during the early morning hours while it's cooler outside and there are fewer people around.
