Saint Johns River Acres is a community of large luxury home set on huge shaded lots south of Blue Springs Park. Living here is about as close to living in the boonies as you can get. There is only one long and winding road leading into the community. It goes south to West Highbanks Road which then takes you into Debary, part of the Debary, Deltona, Deland Tri-City area.
Here in Debary, you can find a Walmart Supercenter and many other amenities at the intersection of Saxon Boulevard and Enterprise Road. On both of these roadways, there are several big-box retail stores, DIY superstores, a Publix Supermarket, and many others stores to find your needs. If you are looking for somewhere to take the family for a meal, there are plenty of great places to eat, including Sonny's BBQ: a fixture in Deland for decades with some of the best barbecue in the south.
Living out here, you have very little to worry about in terms of traffic. That's not to say that there isn't any at all, but with so few homes in the area, rush hour is more like rush minutes! One thing you won't find in this area is pavement. The roads are typically dirt and sand. In fact, once you turn off of West Highbanks Road, you will be driving on unpaved streets. The one advantage to this is that it tends to slow people down, making it safer for those who like to take their dog for walks.
No matter where you take your dog, the one thing you can count on is plenty of shade. There are only the two roads, including Detroit Terrace and East Old Mill Drive. Keep in mind that no matter how little traffic there might be, you still need to keep your eyes and ears open for both cars and local wildlife.
If you live in Saint John River Acres, you are living in the middle of a vast green space. No matter where you turn, there are miles of woods for the two of you to explore and plenty of trails for you to hike.
To the north is Blue Springs Park where you can hike the nature trails, hang out in the woods, or go swimming in Blue Springs Run where you may find yourself swimming with the manatees! This is a very popular park with locals and tourists alike.
If you want to take your dog to a fenced-in dog park, how does 4.5 acres sound? This larger park is divided into two areas. One is for dogs 25 pounds and under and the other is for 25 pounds and over. There's plenty of shade, water fountains in each area for the dogs, benches and picnic tables, and plenty of waste bag stations to clean up after your dog.
