Top dog walkers in Cherokee Ridge
Wag! Walkers know Cherokee Ridge
Cherokee Ridge is a large community sitting on both sides of Indian River Blvd. Most of the homes here are upscale with large shady yards for kids and family dogs to play in. The neighborhood sits on the western edge of town with nothing but vast fields and woods. Despite being on the edge of town, you really aren't very far from most essential amenities.
Five minutes east on Indian River Blvd, you will find Florida Shores Plaza. The plaza is anchored by a Winn-Dixie supermarket where you can find everything you need to feed everyone in your family, including the one with the waggly tail that never stops. The shopping center is also home to a Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Dominos Pizza, and Chick-fil-A. As long as you don't mind fast food, you can always run out here for a quick bite to eat when no one feels like cooking or its too hot.
What is the terrain like in Cherokee Ridge?
The land here is quite flat and doesn't have a lot to offer in the way of challenges for you and your dog. Moreover, you aren't likely to find many sidewalks to use either. Which, of course, means the two of you will be walking on the roads running throughout the neighborhood. Cherokee Ridge is a working family community, meaning that morning and evening rush hours can be a bit of a nightmare and not a good time to go for walks.
You will find a sidewalk on both sides of Indian River Blvd you can use. However, unless your dog is used to walking very close to busy traffic along with all the noise and nasty exhaust fumes it produces, you should still avoid the rush hours. No matter where or when you choose to walk, be sure you keep your dog on a short leash. This is as much for their protection as it is yours; no one wants their dog to become frightened and try to dart out into the road.
How many greenways are there in Cherokee Ridge?
There are vast areas of trees and grass to the west of Cherokee Ridge, but most of these areas are fenced off and are private property. It would be best if you were not taking your dog out for walks here unless you want to find yourself in trouble for trespassing. If you feel like getting out in the woods, the two of you need to hop in the car and take the half hour drive to the Tomoka State Forest. Here you should be able to find enough hiking trails in the woods to keep both of you happy.
If your dog likes to be off-leash, the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park is only a ten-minute drive to the north on S Glencoe Rd. The park covers a vast area of grass and trees, with separate sections for large and small pooches. Each of these areas has plenty of water for the dogs and lots of shade for you to sit under while your dog runs off and plays with the other dogs who are hanging out here.
