Wag! Walkers know Villa Verde South
Villa Verde South is a townhome community on Boston Road close to US-1 and the Indian River North. The townhouses are closer to South Riverside Drive than the highway, which helps isolate some of the traffic noise. Between the townhouses and the highway, there is a Family Dollar and several other businesses that help block the noise. At the east end of Boston Road is a small Marina and boat supply business.
On the west side of US-1, there is the Florida Shores Plaza anchored by a Winn-Dixie Supermarket. Along with a couple of other stores, there are three places for you to grab a bite to eat, including a Dunkin Donuts and a Domino's Pizza. If you put your pup on a leash, you can cross US-1 and pick up coffee and donuts from the drive-through window at the donut shop or a fresh sub at the Subway. Winn-Dixie carries plenty of different dog foods for you to choose from to keep your pup well-fed.
What is the terrain like in Villa Verde South?
The townhouses sit on a large paved parking lot, but do have at least some grass for you to take your pup out for a quick break. Like most of Edgewater, the land here is quite flat, which might make your walks a little dull, but you can always substitute distance for the hills you might find elsewhere.
US-1 is a bustling highway from early in the morning until late at night, carrying a fair amount of heavy truck traffic. Boston Road sees a small amount of traffic during the morning and evening rush hours and people going to the marina. With no sidewalks for the two of you to use, you're stuck with walking on the side of Boston Road. On the other hand, there is a wide paved pathway running along the east side of South Riverside Drive that runs for miles and makes a much better choice to walk, safely away from the small amount of traffic on this road.
How many greenways are there in Villa Verde South?
A five-minute walk north on South Riverside Drive will take the two of you to Veteran's Memorial Park. Here, you will find a parking lot and a paved path leading to the fishing pier jutting out into the Indian River North. There is also plenty of grass for both of you to run around on. Be sure you keep your dog on a leash at all times and be prepared to clean up any messes they may leave behind.
On the west side of the highway, there is a large open area of grass next door to the O'Reilly Auto Parts store, where you can go for a little fun and exercise. However, if you prefer a fenced-in dog park, the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park is less than a fifteen-minute drive on Paige Avenue. There is plenty of water for the pups, shade, seating, and a pool for the dogs to play in.
