Wag! Walkers know Waterway Park
The neighborhood of Waterway Park is aptly named as most of the
houses sit on artificial canals that lead out into the Indian River North.
Those who are lucky enough to have a waterfront home even have boat and fishing docks.
While the homes here are quite large and upscale, they are still packed tightly
together, leaving almost enough room for your dog to play. The community is in
the southern part of the city.
Shopping in the region can be a bit hard to find, especially when
you need essentials such as food for your family and lots of treats and grub
for your pooch. Having said this, there are a couple of grocery stores in town, both of which have a good selection of food for
everyone in the family, including your fluffball. If you need a pet supply
store, there are several to the north in New Smyrna Beach to choose from.
What is the terrain like in Waterway Park?
Like so many of the communities in Edgewater, there aren't
any sidewalks for you and your dog to use for your daily walks. Which, of course,
means you're stuck using the streets for your daily outings. This brings us to the
question of traffic within the neighborhood. Waterway Park may be filled with
upscale homes, but it is still a working family community. Because of this, you
can expect to deal with a fair amount of congestion during the morning and evening
rush hours.
The heaviest part of the traffic doesn’t last long, just
long enough to mess up your morning walks. The best time of the day to hit the pavement together is
early in the morning before rush hour starts. This way, you avoid the traffic and
get to enjoy the cool fresh air before things heat up. The flat terrain will make it fairly easy for you to venture with any pup, no matter their ability level.
How many greenways are there in Waterway Park?
There are plenty of green spaces to choose from around Waterway Park, starting with the vast area of woods to the north. There are several
trails for you and your dog to explore running through these woods, making them an excellent place to go for walks in the summer because the trees are there
to keep the scorching sun at bay!
On the west side of US-1, there is another vast area of woods that
are part of the Turnbull Hammock Conservation Area. Like most of the stretches
of woods in this area, there are plenty of trails for you and Fido to explore. Your
pup is sure to enjoy sampling the many strange smells to be found as the two of you go hiking along. The conservation area covers over 1,100
acres but is still considered to be unsuitable for recreation activities, but there
are plenty of trails so, get out there and enjoy getting back to nature!
