Wag! Walkers know Sable Palms
Sable Palms is an older community of medium homes in Holly Hill. Many of the homes have large yards that are relatively well-kept. The one thing missing for those who like to take their dogs for a walk is sidewalks along the residential streets. You can, of course, take your pup walking along S. Nova Road, but this is a bustling street and not the best choice as the traffic noise can make your puppy nervous. However, to the north, there is the Riviera Oaks Dog Park for your pup to play in without having to be on-leash. There is also a pet store that carries everything you need for your dog from bones to toys.
The climate in Holly Hill is perfect for walking your dog during most of the year. The only time it might be a problem is during the hottest months when ambient temperatures hit the 90s, and the pavement temperatures approach 150°F.
What is the terrain like in Sable Palms?
The terrain in this section of Holly Hill is quite flat with lots of trees and shade. Unfortunately, the streets within the neighborhood have no sidewalks for the two of you to stroll along. But as long as the two of you walk facing traffic and you have light colored clothing on, you should be safe! Working with the flat ground can make getting in plenty of the right kind of exercise more challenging. The best way to do so is to start out with a few trips around the block and then add in more blocks as your stamina improves.
At the end of Golf Ave. is Calle Grande St. This street has a sidewalk you can follow all the way to Ridgewood Ave. to the east. This is a nice, long walk with plenty of grass between you and the street for your dog to keep their paws cool when the weather gets hot.
How many greenways are there in Sable Palms?
Unlike many areas of Holly Hill, Sable Palms is fortunate to have a large area of woods to the east complete with a pond. The area was drained to create the Riviera Oaks dog park and allow the woods to grow. The dog park is one of the more popular parks in town and has three separate areas for large to small dogs. The park offers plenty of trees and benches for you to relax on while your pooch plays with their friends! There are water stations to help keep them hydrated, restrooms for you to use, and a trail that runs around the lake.
If this park is too busy or you are looking for a different location to play in, Central Park is just up the road with an entrance on Fleming Ave. This park is dog-friendly and has a long trail that goes all the way around the pond.
