Wag! Walkers know Bay Point (Bay Point Estates)
Bay Point Estates is a luxury home community sitting on the shores of Biscayne Bay and Sabal Lake. The community is split in two by the lake with one section reachable via a single bridge. The homes on the island are very large and high in value. Most have their own pool and those on the waterfront have private docks. Some of the homes here date back to 1946 when the community was first developed.
This is a gated community, meaning that you must live here or be visiting someone who lives here to get in. The one problem with living in a gated community is that you have no choice but to leave the community for everything including restaurants, dog-friendly parks, and pet supply stores. However, like the rest of Miami, the weather here is luxurious with warm winters and summers full of hot days and warm nights for you to enjoy.
What is the terrain like in Bay Point (Bay Point Estates)?
Much like the rest of the city surrounding Bay Point, everything here is pretty flat. The streets lack sidewalks which seems a bit odd for such an expensive neighborhood with luxury houses. But even without sidewalks, you and Spot can still get out there and put in your daily miles. The streets are wide enough for you and the traffic as long as you take basic safety precautions such as wearing brightly colored clothing and walking against the flow of vehicles.
If you are interested in trying to find something a little different or more challenging, Morningside Park is just to the north or you can visit any one of the many other parks in the city. Most are dog-friendly, but you should check first before you go just to make sure you don't end up being disappointed. Unless the parks have fenced in areas for dogs, you must keep your pup on their leash.
How many greenways are there in Bay Point (Bay Point Estates)?
For such an expensive gated community in Miami, the developers didn't include anything in the way of green spaces or parks. Here in Bay Point Estates, the only greenery is that which can be found in the yards of those who live here.
The good news is that to the north is Morningside Park. The park runs for five blocks along the shore of Biscayne Bay and offers hiking trails, tennis and basketball courts, a public swimming pool, and plenty of trees. Bring your pup here, walk the trails, and then curl up with your favorite book in the shade of a banyan tree. It's also an excellent place to teach your kids to ride their bikes, play ball, or have a picnic.
There is another small park to the south. Albert Pallot Park is a large area of grass with a long waterfront where you can kick back and watch the sailboats go by.
