Wag! Walkers know Silver Bluff
Silver Bluff is a blended community of single-family homes, apartment complexes, and high-rises. Many of the homes here date back to the 1940s while most of the newer ones were built in the last thirty years of the 20th century. There are dog-friendly parks within the community and dog-parks within a short driving distance. The town is one of the largest Cuban communities in the country along with a high percentage of people from the Dominican Republic, giving rise to several incredible restaurants throughout the community. Many of the streets are lined with grass berms and sidewalks.
The climate here is nothing less than amazing. While you might see around 59 inches of rain throughout the year, you will never see a single flake of snow. Winter temperatures hit their low point in January at approximately 60°F. It's no wonder so many people continue to move into the Greater Miami area every year!
What is the terrain like in Silver Bluff?
The terrain here is "suburban flat" in that, as a primarily residential area, it is mostly block after block of homes lined with grass berms and sidewalks. While there are trees in the area, most are in backyards rather than lining the streets to provide you with shade. With no hills to climb, the area makes for some very easy walks. This is great if you have a puppy, an elderly dog, or a pudgy pooch, but if you have an average healthy dog or a high-energy breed, you may have to be a bit more creative to ensure they are getting the exercise they need.
If you are new to the area, you should be aware of the dangers that come with high outside temperatures. These are the risks of severely burning paws because of the extreme temperature of the pavement. Take caution when walking to prevent discomfort and injury.
How many greenways are there in Silver Bluff?
Being a high-density residential area, there are few large areas of green space for you and your pup to play on and get in a little one-on-one time. Douglas Park has tennis courts, basketball, courts, a playground, a baseball field, and plenty of grass for the two of you to enjoy. If you want anything more than this, there are several other parks over on the coast including Peacock Park, Regatta Park, and both the Dinner Key Picnic Islands Park and West Islands Park, both out on islands in the bay. Both of these parks offer trails to walk on and places to sit in the shade while you watch the traffic out in the bay go by.
Just up the coast is the Coconut Grove Dog Park where you can let your pup run around off-leash, so they can play with their buddies, burn off energy, and have a great time while you relax in the shade.
