Wag! Walkers know Upper Brickell
Upper Brickell is home to the "Brickell Financial District"
or at least it was! Today, it is home to high-rise residential buildings including
apartments and condos. It is also home to the Guatemala Consulate General and a
number of hotels. There are numerous restaurants throughout the area serving up
a very diverse range of cultural cuisines that make living here just a little more
interesting. There are dog-friendly parks
and pet supply stores within driving distance for you and Fido to enjoy while seeking out places to play and tasty snacks.
The weather here is nothing short of
glorious with daytime January lows in the 60s and summer highs in July
reaching the low 90s. While it does rain up to 59 inches per year here, it never
snows! You and Fido can walk most days of the year - or every day - if you don’t
mind carrying an umbrella.
What is the terrain like in Upper Brickell?
Upper Brickell is a paved wonderland with very little in the
way of grass to walk along. The ground here is flat which you can take one of
two ways when it comes to walking with Fido. If they have managed to pack on a few
extra pounds, the flat ground can be a blessing as strolling along the flat ground is not overly strenuous. But it can
go a long way towards helping them get back in shape for when the time comes to
go for longer walks at the Oleta River
State Park.
On the other hand, if your pup is getting older, flatter terrain can
make it easier for them to continue enjoying walks with you. Keep in mind that the pavement can be hot enough
in the middle of summer to cause uncomfortable burns.
Take your walks during the early morning hours while the pavement is still cool
and safer for your pup to walk on.
How many greenways are there in Upper Brickell?
When it comes to greenways, you won't find much of it in
Upper Brickell for you and Fido to enjoy. At most, a few of the buildings have
grass planted around them. However, over on the corner of Biscayne Blvd. and SE 5th
St. is the Biscayne Park Path that leads to the waterfront. There is also a
small baseball field on SE 6th St. where it goes under I-95.
If you don’t mind
driving out a little, Simpson Park is where you will find a pond, walking trails, and plenty of shade to help keep you cool. This
is the perfect place for the two of you to log in a few extra miles of walking instead
of relying on going around a few blocks for your daily exercise. One trip to
the park each week is a great way to keep your walks a little more exciting for
both of you.
