Wag! Walkers know Brae Burn
Brae Burn is a small neighborhood in the middle of the Sugar Mills Golf Course bordered to the east by the vast wooded areas of Daugherty's Todd Grant and Ward Higbees Trope Grant. Brae Burn is a private residents-only community with 24-hour manned entrance gates and security. The area has its own neighborhood swimming pool and plenty of sidewalks for you and your dog to go walking on.
While you might be surrounded by a golf course, it is not for you and your pup to go walking on pets are, unfortunately, not allowed. In addition, while you don't have anything in the way of shopping or restaurants within walking distance, there are multiple restaurants within fifteen minutes of your home if you're willing to travel a bit. Along with places to eat, there are plenty of places to shop, stop in for an evening drink, or catch the latest movies in that area as well.
What is the terrain like in Brae Burn?
Living in the middle of a golf course has the advantage of minimal vehicular traffic. Beyond morning and evening rush hours, the most traffic you are likely to see during the day is the school bus and the occasional golf cart. Again, you and your dog are going to have to be content with walking on the sidewalks since you can't walk on the golf course.
You do have the option of going into the woods to the east as there are bound to be plenty of trails for the two of you explore during the daylight hours. Avoid these spaces during night, however, as there's a distinct lack of lighting.
Life inside the community is quite safe with on-site security and a guarded entrance gate. But, like anywhere, going into the woods at night, even with your dog may not be the best idea unless you go with at least one other person.
How many greenways are there in Brae Burn?
Beyond the woods to the east, you are within ten minutes of the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, a vast nature preserve covering more than 1,600 acres. Here, the two of you can enjoy hiking along miles of trails that take you past swamps and through dense woods, making it a good place to go for walks in the shade when the sun is trying to turn the entire area into one hot mess.
If you drive out to the east, you will eventually come to the coast and the beach. The beach offers the two of you a wonderful place to go for walks and get in your exercise. You can use the soft sand that is hard to walk in for the outbound journey and some serious exercise, then come back on the wet sand that is much easier to traverse. Make sure you stop for a swim to cool off!
