Wag! Walkers know Buena Vista Shores
Buena Vista Shores is a community of single-family homes on North Causeway Island sitting in the middle of the Indian River North. The homes that sit along the waterfront have private docks jutting out into the river. For those with boats not on the waterfront, there is a marina at the other end of the island.
The island also boasts a small park, a couple of excellent restaurants, and access to the Marine Discovery Center. From where your home is situated, it’s a five-minute drive to the beach towards the east or back into town on the west end. At the other end of the bridge and to the east is historic Flagler Avenue. Here, you will find a great selection of unique boutique stores and several restaurants, pubs, and taverns. At the end of Flagler Avenue is the beach where you and your dog can go for your morning walks.
What is the terrain like in Buena Vista Shores?
Providing you keep to walking within the neighborhood, you won't have much in the way of traffic to deal with. But keep in mind that the North Causeway itself is a bustling thoroughfare between the mainland side of town and the beachside. The good news is that there is a protected walkway on the bridge. If so inclined, you and your dog can use it to walk to the coast.
There is a walking trail on the island that runs from the mainland all the way to the beachside. You can use the paved path while your pup can walk beside you on the grass which will be much easier on their paws. You might encounter a little bit of pedestrian traffic at certain times of the day, but as long as you take your walks during the early morning hours, you are likely to have the sidewalks and walking path to yourselves.
How many greenways are there in Buena Vista Shores?
The island has a small park at the eastern end. Buena Vista Park has plenty of grass, a walking trail, and a fishing dock jutting out into the Indian River North. Beyond this and the walking path running beside the North Causeway, you will have to drive for anything else.
The nearest alternative is the beach where the two of you can walk for as many miles as you can handle. Be sure you take a few minutes to go for a swim with your dog while you are there!
Once you get over onto the beachside, you are five minutes from Smyrna Dunes Park. Here, you and your dog can hike along the two miles of elevated boardwalk that takes you over the dunes. In the park, you will discover five different ecosystems among the 73 acres of pristine territory, a dog-friendly beach, and a great place to go swimming with your pooch on a hot summer day.
