Wag! Walkers know Coronado Acres
Coronado Acres is a vast area of woods south of Venetian Bay and west of the Venetian Bay Golf Course. While this area is undeveloped, it is expected to be developed along with the new residential neighborhoods already built. The community is one of the westernmost in New Smyrna Beach being on the west side of I-95 and close to the South Tomoka Wildlife Management Area.
While it might seem like a long way from town, the furthest you might have to drive is twenty-five minutes to the beach when traffic is busy. Everything you need including restaurants, pet supply stores, gas stations, places to work, and great places to eat are all within this short drive.
For those who like to spend time out in the woods, the South Tomoka WMA is a very short drive to the west and makes a great place to enjoy fresh air and sunshine.
What is the terrain like in Coronado Acres?
There are usually two reasons why people choose to live out here. First, they are a member of the Venetian Bay Golf Club and want to be close to the course. Second, they want to enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with living this far out of town. The land out here is mostly flat and covered with woods that are part of the community and have yet to be developed.
Those areas that have been developed are filled with row after row of "cookie cutter" homes on carefully laid out streets. Each street has sidewalks on both sides for you and your dog to walk on for added safety. Traffic out here is minimal during most of the day, with the only busy times likely to be during morning and evening rush hours or when the school buses are running. During these times, if you must take your dog out for a walk, be sure you use a short leash.
How many greenways are there in Coronado Acres?
One of the big reasons to live out here has to be the sheer amount of green space surrounding the area. The dense woods to the southwest offer plenty of shady trails for you and your dog to take your daily walks in rather than being confined to walking on the streets.
To the west is the South Tomoka Wildlife Management Area which is part of the greater Tiger Bay State Forest. This area covers over 30,000 acres and incorporates a wide range of terrain, miles of hiking, biking, horseback riding, and dog walking trails which stretch miles in all directions.
No matter what green space you decide to take your dog out to hike and play in, the one constant is the buzz of mosquitos all around you. Be sure you use a good quality mosquito repellent to protect yourself from these vicious little buggers.
