Wag! Walkers know Fairgreen
Fairgreen is a large neighborhood of single-family homes situated on Fairgreen Avenue between the New Smyrna Beach Golf Course and the Hidden Lakes Golf Course and Club. Most of the houses here are standalone, but there are a few townhouses as well. The community also sits on the banks of Turnbull Creek that leads to Turnbull Bay and then out into the Indian River. A fair part of the community sits inside the Hidden Lakes course and most have at least one small lake built into the individual neighborhoods.
Living here puts you close to the New Smyrna Beach Airport, numerous parks, and only a few minutes from the beach. For those of you who like the chance to go out for a meal from time to time, you are also nice and close to a selection of both fast-food chain restaurants as well as privately owned family-style and fine dining options.
What is the terrain like in Fairgreen?
There are several advantages to living in a planned community such as Fairgreen, starting with the fact you won't have to deal with a lot of daytime traffic while going out for your walks. Typically, the only times of the day when traffic is hectic are during morning and evening rush hours. You might also have to deal with some pedestrian traffic during the times when local school buses are picking up the kids or dropping them off.
The one thing that seems to be missing here is anything in the form of sidewalks for you and your dog to take your walks on. This means that the two of you are relegated to walking on the streets, which, due to the lack of traffic during most of the day, should not be a problem. You will have to get used to walking on level terrain as there simply isn't much elevation variation in this area.
How many greenways are there in Fairgreen?
Living in between and within the bounds of two large golf courses means being right next door to two vast green spaces that you and your dog, unfortunately, cannot make use of. Dogs are kept off the golf courses to protect the golfers from being pestered by unhappy dogs and to avoid any pup-related messes.
For those that like the fresh ocean breezes, you can always take your dog out for walks on the beach. The best time to do so is in the early mornings, especially during tourist season as the vehicular traffic tends to build up quickly on the sand starting early in the morning and lasting into the evening. If you go out for your walks early in the morning, not only is there less traffic for the two of you to deal with, but the air is cooler before the sun starts heating up the day.
