Ocean Reef Villas is one of the few pet-friendly beachfront condominiums. Out here on the barrier island, you and your pooch will find that the condos are not the only pet-friendly places in town. Many of the restaurants have pet-friendly patios where you and Fido can sit while you enjoy a tasty meal or cup of cappuccino. Most of the establishments also put out water bowls for your canine friend. At the historic Dairy Queen, your pup can have their very own "doggie sundae" right off the menu!
The condos are also right across the street from a Publix grocery store where you can pick up a few doggy treats and many brands of dog food.
With summers in the upper 80s and lower 90s, being right on the beach definitely has its advantages, including the fact that you can literally run outside and be in the water in about 60 seconds!
What is the terrain like in Ocean Reef Villas?
When it comes to terrain, you have a choice. To the east is the beach where you and your pooch can use the sand to get in a good leg muscle workout. Tourist season may cram this area with visitors, however, so shy pups or those who aren't used to strangers may want to avoid that side of the villas and, instead, venture S Atlantic Avenue to take in some of the sights away from the bulk of the tourists.
To your right is the Indian River Village shopping center anchored by a Publix grocery store. To the north and south lie block after block of residential streets, some with sidewalks and others without. You and your pup can use these streets for walking, if you prefer, or if you need a break from walking on the beach. However, you'll want to exercise caution when crossing E 3rd Avenue as this road can be heavy with traffic at peak hours.

If you and you pup like to canoe or hang out in a rowboat together, the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve is on the other side of the barrier island and has several places from which you can launch a watercraft. You can paddle around for miles and, if you aren't careful, it's not hard to get lost out here! You should have a local familiar with the lagoon show you how to find your way around.
If you are more interested in an area where you can run around and have some on-leash fun with your pooch, you'll need to hop in the car and head north to the Smyrna Dunes Park. The park offers several different ecosystems to explore, trails for the two of you to walk on, and a dog-friendly beach where the two of you can play or go out into the inlet for a swim together.
