The Ocean View Condominiums live up to their name as everyone living in this single floor condo has a spectacular view of the beach. Right outside your front door is Esther Street Park, but it's not really much more than a parking lot for those headed to the dunes. The condos also sit on South Atlantic Avenue, the busiest road on the peninsula.
Being this close to historic Flagler Avenue gives you access to a selection of boutiques and shops to have fun wandering through. Along with these, there are several restaurants, pubs, and bars. If you need groceries or supplies for your dog, there is a Publix grocery store a little to the south on East 3rd Avenue along with more places to eat, drink, shop, and be merry in the Florida sunshine. Be sure you wear sunblock if you plan to do a lot of walking!
South Atlantic Avenue is the main highway running all the way down the beach. Because of this, you can expect heavy vehicular traffic from the wee hours of the morning until very late at night. However, it gets even worse during the morning and evening rush hours. The sidewalks along this stretch of road tend to be crowded during the day with people going to and from the beach. If you must walk your dog here, be sure you use a short leash!
You can always use the sandy dunes for your walks, but you still have to deal with the traffic as cars are permitted on the beach. Expect it to be jam-packed during the day. Between cars, sunbathers, surfers, and families, walking your pooch here at this time may not be your best idea. You can instead go out for your walks in the early morning hours before the whole world starts to wake up.
The best place to start talking about green spaces is the beach. Here, you and your dog can hike to your heart's content. If you are looking for a place for both of you to give your leg muscles and lungs a good workout, you can't beat the dry soft sand closest to the edge of the coast. Once you've gone as far as you have the energy for, come back using the wet sand and don't forget to cool off with a dip in the water!
A few minutes to the north is the Smyrna Dunes Park covering 73 acres and five different ecosystems. There is a 1.5-mile long boardwalk that carries you and your pup over the sensitive dunes to the areas where you can hike and play along with a dog-friendly beach where you and your pooch can go swimming out in the inlet.
