Unlike the Keys further south that are surrounded by water, the homes in Sabal Key surround the water in the form of a lake in the middle of the community. This is a relatively new community of single-family homes located off Pioneer Trail close to I-4 and SR-44.  Living out here gives you the peace and quiet of living in the country while still being close enough to the central part of town to make use of the many amenities it has to offer.

From restaurants to grocery stores and pet supplies, all are only a ten to fifteen-minute drive away. There are plenty of places such as parks and nature preserves for you and your dog to go hiking in and there is always the beach which is only a fifteen-minute drive to the east on SR-44 which becomes East 3rd Avenue on the beachside and will take you all the way out onto the sand.

The area out here is freshly developed and still bears some of the scars of construction. But like most residential communities this far out from town, you can expect some traffic during the morning and evening rush hours as people head off to work or arrive home after a long day. You may also find yourself dealing with school kids and school buses during the day. If you must walk your dog during these times of day, you should use a short leash to help maintain better control.

The land out here is relatively flat and has little to offer in the way of challenge to add to your walks. Thankfully, there are sidewalks running through the community the two of you can use leaning all the way out of the development and out onto Pioneer Trail. These sidewalks lead into other nearby communities that you can use to add distance to your daily walks.

The entire area is still under development sitting near lots of woods with trails running through them that you and your dog can incorporate into your daily walks. To make going for walks a lot easier, the New Smyrna Beach Multi-Use Trail is directly south of the development. This trail runs all the way from I-95 to Jungle Road in town. The trail is open to cyclists, hikers, and dog walkers.

For those who like the idea of being able to take their dog somewhere they can run around off-leash, the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park offers a nice space to play. Here, there are separate sections for big and small dogs to ensure their safety. Each section has a place for your pup to get water and there is a large pavilion for dog owners to sit in the shade while their pups play together out in the warm Florida sunshine.
