Top dog walkers in River Oaks
Wag! Walkers know River Oaks
River Oaks is a small single-builder community of larger homes sitting on medium-sized yards. There are plenty of sidewalks for you and your pup to walk along running through the neighborhood. At the entrance to River Oaks is a large pond with a fountain, with another lake and fountain combination running between the community and I-95. The only problem with this area is that you have to drive for dog-friendly parks, pet stores, and any kind of restaurant. There are woods and scrub surrounding this residential area along with another community nearby.
The climate here runs from mild in the winter to brutal in the summer, bouncing between the mid-40s and high-90s. If you need to take your pooch out for a long walk in the summer months, you should try to do so in the early morning before it becomes too hot for them to be outside for prolonged periods of time.
What is the terrain like in River Oaks?
The terrain in the community started out flat, but only became more so as the developers laid in the streets, utilities, and plots for the homes. Rather than laying in lots of wide open grass, the developer added in several ponds to make the neighborhood more pleasant. While the streets may not offer much in the way of challenging walks, you can make the loop around the area or cross Airport Road to walk in Ormond Green or take the Pineland Trail that runs along the side of I-95.
In the end, it is up to you to be creative and make the walks more challenging. Even your puppy will get bored quickly otherwise! The trail makes a good choice during the summer months as grass running alongside it doesn't get as hot as the tarmac and concrete sidewalks that can get hot enough to burn your pooch's paws in seconds, leaving behind severe damage.
How many greenways are there in River Oaks?
River Oaks sits just a short distance from the Tomoka River, separated by both the Broadwater Community and a wide stretch of woods. Many of the homes in Broadwater have long, raised boardwalks leading through the woods to private docks on the river. If you follow Pineland Trail, you and your pup will come across paths cutting through the woods that can be fun and interesting to explore.
For more exciting terrain, you can always head up north to Tomoka State Park or the Addison Blockhouse Historic State Park. The Addison Blockhouse Park is the site of a 19th-century plantation. The blockhouse foundations are all that remain of the original, but in 1920, a new blockhouse was built on the site of the ruins. Both of these parks make excellent places to go hiking along the trails that run through them. These trails also make a great place to go bird-watching as many different species call this area home.
