Top dog walkers in Baywood
Wag! Walkers know Baywood
Home to a senior assisted living facility and a small section of single-family homes, Baywood sits almost on top of one of the busiest roads in town, South Ridgewood Avenue. While this may not be an ideal place to walk your dog, the neighboring communities offer plenty of room for you and your pooch to rack up the miles.
South Ridgewood is home to a wide range of strip malls and businesses. Being this far south of the central part of town, you will have to drive north to find major grocery stores and places to buy your dog food. You may find a few local eateries nearby, but the best part of the restaurants in town are all up and down Dunlawton Avenue, the main east-west road through town.
For places to go play, Spruce Creek Park and the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve are just minutes to the south. Of course, you can always cruise over the Dunlawton Avenue bridge to the beach.
What is the terrain like in Baywood?
The one thing you will have to get used to living here is the amount of traffic flowing along South Ridgewood Avenue at all hours of the day and night. The time between morning and afternoon rush hour is typically the busiest, but traffic continues to flow far into the night. This is not the best road for you and your pup to walk along.
However, you can take your pooch into the residential neighborhoods to the west as most have sidewalks and the traffic slows down between rush hours. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that, as family neighborhoods, there are likely to be moms with strollers out for walks and lots of kids of all ages. It's okay to let them pet your dog if your dog doesn’t object. However, use a short leash to help you maintain better control and let your pup make the decision as to how many kids they will tolerate.
How many greenways are there in Baywood?
The nearest green spaces are the beach to the east on Dunlawton Avenue and the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. The beach is a fifteen to twenty-minute drive away. You can drive right out on the sand and park your car! Then you can take your pup out on the soft sand for a great workout.
To the south are Spruce Creek Park and the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. These areas offer over 1,600 acres of wetlands, forests, and trails for you and your dog to hike along. You can use the trails to hike the six-mile round trip to the New Smyrna Beach end of the preserve and back. Along the way, you never know which of the local inhabitants of the preserve you are likely to run into. Be sure to check out the 15-foot high observation tower and the spectacular views of the wetlands!
