Wag! Walkers know Carya
Carya is a pocket neighborhood consisting of five manufactured homes on a small cul-de-sac that leads off of Herbert Street. The area is close to Bennetts Hammock where there is a small area of woods and a lake for you and your dog to enjoy exploring. There are woods behind the homes where you can explore and search for the small lake in the middle.
From here, you are only a five-minute drive from Dunlawton Avenue. Dunlawton is the main road running east-west through town. It is a four-lane highway and very busy at most times of the day. It is also where you will find the majority of the larger stores like the Publix Supermarket, the Walmart Supercenter, a Target, and many others. It is also home to many of the best restaurants in town.
Living here puts you close to the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens, Reed Canal Park, and the beaches running along the shores of the Atlantic.
What is the terrain like in Carya?
Within the cul-de-sac, the only traffic you are likely to ever see is from residents. However, Herbert Street tends to be reasonably busy from early in the morning as rush hour gets started until late in the evening. Most dogs should not have a problem walking on the sidewalks that run along Herbert Street. The one on the east side of the road is much wider and newer, making for a safer walk.
If you prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Herbert Street, you can always take your walks into the neighboring mobile home community just to the south. Alternatively, you can cross the street and walk out into the woods next door to the Nova Family Campground. The terrain itself around here is quite flat, making it easier for both you and your dog to log in plenty of miles on each of your walks together.
How many greenways are there in Carya?
The nearest green spaces are the woods on either side of Herbert Street, but you are only a ten to fifteen-minute walk from the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens. The gardens sit on the former home of a 19th Century plantation and sugar mill, the ruins of which can still be seen today. Along with exquisite botanical gardens to enjoy, there are nature trails to hike along and so much beauty to see. You may find that this becomes one of your favorite spots in town!
For a great day of fun in the sun and fresh air, you can pile everyone in the car and head east on Dunlawton Avenue. Your journey will take less than fifteen minutes and you'll have access to an excellent place for a picnic and some family fun. Alternatively, take your pup on a long hike along the sand, enjoying the sounds of the ocean and the seagulls overhead while logging plenty of exercise along the way.
