Wag! Walkers know Harbour Town Village
Harbour Town Village might as well be a small village here in Port Orange instead of just a modest residential neighborhood. The houses here are upper-middle-class with each home having a decent size yard, a garage, and sidewalks running in front of them. On the western edge of the community, there is a small lake that separates Harbour Town Village from Briarwood Mobile Estates to the west.
Living here puts you close to South Nova Road which is your direct route north to Dunlawton Avenue. Dunlawton runs from I-95 to the west all the way through town and ends at the entrance to the beach. Along this vital road, you and your family will find several shopping centers, big-box retail stores, supermarkets, and pet supply stores. Dunlawton is also home to an excellent selection of both chain and local restaurants that are perfect for those times when you don't feel like cooking.
What is the terrain like in Harbour Town Village?
Harbour Town Village is a family neighborhood filled with people who work hard for their money. They fill the streets during the morning and evening rush hours. When combined with the school buses from September through June, these hours tend to be quite hectic and may not be the best time to take your dog for a walk.
The one good thing here is that there are sidewalks on both sides of the streets for you to walk on and grass berms for your dog to use for any quick pit stops. The grass will be much cooler to walk on and won't burn your pup's paws! When you run out of room to walk in Harbour Town Village, there are several more communities in all directions. To the east is South Ridgewood Avenue which is the main north-south highway through town. It is not a good place to take your dog walking unless they happen to be very comfortable with heavy traffic.
How many greenways are there in Harbour Town Village?
You won't find much in the way of green space within walking distance, but as long as the two of you don't mind going for a bit of a car ride, you can be on the beach or in the Spruce Creek Preserve in ten to fifteen minutes.
One of the great things about the beaches here is that not only can you drive on them, but you can bring your dog and park your car on the sand! The best time of day to visit is early in the morning. If you wait until midday, the temperature can be too hot for your dog and the traffic tends to be heavy.
Spruce Creek Preserve is a short drive south on US-1 and offers a vast nature preserve filled with trails to hike along, large open areas, and plenty of wildlife to spot. It's also a great place to go fishing and to have picnics after you and your dog log in mile after mile of hikes.
