Wag! Walkers know Oak Cove
Located west of South Nova Road and next door to the Nova Family Campground, Oak Cove is a family neighborhood. The houses here are a mixture of duplexes and single-family units with a couple of small lakes for you to enjoy. While there are plenty of shade trees in the area, only a few of them seem to offer any coverage to the sidewalks.
Being this close to South Nova Road puts you close to Dunlawton Avenue, the main highway running through town. Along both sides of this four-lane thoroughfare, you will find numerous big-box retailers, supermarkets, pet supply stores, and many other stores. For those of you who like to eat out, there are several restaurants located in the area.
There are parks and green spaces nearby and the beach is only fifteen minutes to the east. If you like the thick forest, there is a vast wildlife management area to the west.
What is the terrain like in Oak Cove?
As a family-oriented community, you can expect to see a fair amount of vehicular traffic during the usual rush hours. However, since Oak Cove is such a small neighborhood and doesn't have a popular through-street, the amount of daily hustle and bustle is relatively light. There are sidewalks for the two of to use which makes things a lot safer, even if you do have to take your pup out during the day.
In a neighborhood with such flat terrain, you're much more likely to see more pedestrians out and about with their own dogs in tow. You may need to plan your route, especially if your pup isn't that ready for so many people to come up and say hello. Alternatively, you can venture out to nearby greenways that may provide the ability to put some space between you and these other pedestrians. Luckily, you'll have plenty of options to choose from.
How many greenways are there in Oak Cove?
On both the north and south side of the area are sections of woods where you and your pup should be able to find a few trails to follow. On the south side, there is a small lake to walk around and a trail that will take both of you to the City Century Sports Complex. When there aren't any games going on, you and your dog can get away with running around on the fields.
If you go north on South Nova Road, in two minutes, you will be at the southern end of Reed Canal Park. You can enter here, follow the trails through the woods, and end up at the lake. There is a path around the water you can follow that will take you to the wide-open grass field.
For more fun in the sun, you can drive out onto the beach and hike for as many miles as you and your dog can handle along the warm sand.
