Wag! Walkers know Port Orange Gateway Center
The Port Orange Gateway Center is a vast residential area sitting on the east side of I-95 and to the north of Dunlawton Avenue. The area consists of single-family houses, townhouses, and apartments, all in their own neighborhoods. Within the confines of Port Orange Gateway Center is Horizon Middle School and right next door, the only park in the area. Willow Run Park offers a large field of grass, a small section of woods, and tennis courts.
While living here does mean learning to live with the noise of I-95, it won't take long for you and your family to get used to it. After all, you are two minutes from the intersection of Dunlawton Avenue and I-95, making the commute north or south much easier. Dunlawton is also home to the vast majority of stores, shopping centers, and restaurants in town where you and your family can dine out when no one feels like cooking.
What is the terrain like in Port Orange Gateway Center?
There are two things to keep in mind when living in this community. The first is that it is a working family area. The second is that there is a school within the neighborhood! Being a working family community, you should expect to see a lot of vehicular traffic during the morning and evening rush hours including school buses and carpooling parents.
Fortunately, the developers of this neighborhood thought to put in sidewalks for you and your dog to use along with grass berms to keep your pup's feet off the pavement! The one thing they did forget to add in is, unfortunately, shade trees along the way. You and your pooch will be walking in the full sunlight, so try to time your walks for early in the morning when the streets are quiet and the sun has yet to really shine. This will keep you and your pup comfortable as you wander.
How many greenways are there in Port Orange Gateway Center?
Willow Run Park is the only park in the vicinity. If you want more room to play, you and your dog will have to drive to find it! From here, you are only a twenty-minute drive from the Tiger Bay State Forest which is part of the 30,000 acres that make up the Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area, providing miles of trails for you and your dog to hike along deep into the forests!
To the east and at the end of Dunlawton Avenue is the beach. In fact, you can drive your car right out onto the sand! From here, you and your dog can hike as far along the coast as you can handle. When you get hot, take a swim! As you stroll, however, remember to stay hydrated as the summer weather in this area of Florida can be pretty brutal. Enjoy the beach but remember to do so safely!
