Wag! Walkers know Ravenwood
You couldn't ask for a much safer place to live than right across the street from the Port Orange Police Department. Ravenwood sits on the west side of Clyde Morris Boulevard and, along with being neighbors to the local constabulary, is home a large residential community and several small businesses, one of which just happens to be the Ravenwood Veterinary Clinic. You can walk your dog to see the vet, making for great exercise with a surprise at the end!
There are a few small local restaurants nearby along with several medical offices and, across the street, there is a large RV park. If you need supplies for yourself and your pooch, five minutes to the south is Dunlawton Avenue where you will find things like a Walmart Supercenter, a Publix Supermarket, and many others. It is also the perfect place to find more restaurants on your way east to the beach.
What is the terrain like in Ravenwood?
With this being a working community, you should be prepared to deal with a lot of traffic during the typical rush hours. Thankfully, there are sidewalks with grass berms for you and your pup to use for your daily walks to help keep you away from the busy streets. Be sure you use a short leash for your walks as this will give you more control in case your dog is easily startled by traffic.
Ravenwood is very much a family community with lots of children of all ages running around. Along with those getting on and off the school buses during the school year, there are going to be kids playing in their yards, riding bikes, skateboarding, rollerblading, and generally having a lot of fun. If there is one thing that will stop kids in mid-track, it the sight of a cute dog walking by. Be sure you keep a firm grip on the leash and your dog under control!
How many greenways are there in Ravenwood?
To the east of Ravenwood is the City Center Sports Complex with multiple softball and athletic fields where you and your dog can run around and get in a little exercise. There are also a few small local parks with just enough room for your dog to run around a bit. But, if you want somewhere for your pup to run around off-leash, the Seemore Memorial Dog Park is only ten minutes to the south on Spruce Creek Road.
While you and your dog are playing in the appropriate half of this one-acre park, the kids can be playing in the All Children's Park next door. The dog park has water fountains for the dogs, a rinse station for after playtime is over, and benches in the shade. The children's park has a large pirate-themed playground for the kids, grass for the pup, and a shady pavilion for everyone to picnic under.
