Wag! Walkers know Sugar Grove
Sugar Grove is a small neighborhood of large luxury homes with its own small lake. The houses here sit on Sugar Grove Court which is a cul-de-sac. The community is heavily shaded and the homes have more substantial yards with plenty of room to raise a family and enjoy having an active family dog.
From your home in Sugar Grove, it's only a short drive to South Nova Road and, from there, south to Dunlawton Avenue, the main east-west route through town. Along with giving you access to the beach on the other side of the Halifax River, Dunlawton Avenue is also home to a large selection of major stores like Walmart, Publix, Home Depot, Lowe's, and Target. Along Dunlawton, you will also find numerous shopping centers and strip malls complete with pet supply stores, salons, and a great selection of local and chain restaurants for your family to choose from.
What is the terrain like in Sugar Grove?
Within Sugar Grove, cul-de-sac traffic is minimal, limited mainly to those who live here, the mail carrier, and a few delivery vehicles. In fact, the entire area remains quiet during most of the day, with the usual rush hour traffic and school buses being the bulk of the fuss. Within the neighborhood, there is a sidewalk for you and your pup to use, but once you leave Sugar Grove Court and head out on Nixon Lane, you must keep an eye out for traffic and use a short leash.
Along with being able to walk up and down Nixon Lane, there is nothing wrong with adding some of the other neighborhoods into your walks. It's a great way to make new friends. Additionally, going to different neighborhoods will give your pooch something new to sniff at, which is sure to put a great big smile on their face.
How many greenways are there in Sugar Grove?
To start with, there is the lake on the west side of the neighborhood with access at the end of the cul-de-sac. It's only a small lake, but gives you a nice place to go for your daily walks.
On the other side of Nixon Lane is Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens. Built on the ruins of a 19th Century plantation and an old sugar mill, there are now incredible botanical gardens for everyone to enjoy and nature trails to explore.
If you go south, your journey will take you and your pup up and over the Dunlawton Bridge and onto the beach. Park your car and be prepared to hike as far as the two of you can handle on the sand. Use the soft, dry sand for a serious workout and the wet sand for gentle strolls. Make sure you take time out to go for a refreshing dip in the warm waters. It will be good for both of you!
