Wag! Walkers know Walker
Walker is home to two auto parts stores, behind both of which is small residential area, a tiny lake,
and a Florida Power & Light substation. With the exception of the houses and
the substation, both sitting back off the main road on their own streets, the rest of the amenities are located on South Nova Road.
The community is also next door to the Nova Family Campground.
The Silver Sands Middle School, the City
Center Athletic Fields, and Dunlawton Avenue are all right next door. Dunlawton is
not only the main east-west highway from I-95 to the beach, but it is also the town's
central shopping district. From Walmart to Publix and numerous shopping centers,
you should be able to find everything your family needs.
There are parks within driving distance of your home and the beach is only fifteen minutes away, even
on a busy day. This is an excellent place
to raise a family and feel safe taking your dog out for a walk at any time!
What is the terrain like in Walker?
Within the residential community behind Walker, you should
expect to see the normal rush hour
traffic and, when schools are in session, the school buses running through twice
a day. Beyond this, it stays relatively quiet. There are sidewalks for you
and your pup to use for your daily walks with no real changes in elevation and
there are grass berms in place for your dog to walk on to keep their paws cool.
The one thing missing from the sidewalks has to be shade as it
seems as though someone forgot to add them to their plans for the community! This can make for some hot walks if you wait
until late in the day to go out. Do your pup a favor and take them out before the morning rush hour. The traffic
will be much less and the temperature outside will be far more enjoyable!
How many greenways are there in Walker?
There is a small lake between the residential neighborhood and
the auto parts store for the two of you to walk around. If you follow the
trail that runs on the other side of the substation, it will take you to the City Center Sports Complex
and Fields. Providing there aren't any games going on, there is a lot of open grass for the two of you to run around on! Be sure you keep your pup on a leash in this facility.
The nearest park where you and your dog are welcome is Reed
Canal Park on Reed Canal Road. Here, you and your
dog can play in the vast grassy field, take a stroll around the lake, or explore
the many trails running through the woods at the southern end of the park. It's
a great place to take your pooch for some time together out in the fresh air without having to stray too far from
home.
