Wag! Walkers know Terrace Gardens
Terrace Gardens is on the west side of Sarasota behind the Florida Department of Health for Sarasota facility. The homes here may be older, but the entire neighborhood is well-kept and filled with glorious shade trees. While there aren't any sidewalks for you and your furry friend to walk on, the neighborhood does provide a great place to walk in the shade. Just remember to wear light colored or reflective clothing to ensure motorists can see you if you're traveling at night. There are multiple dog-friendly parks in the area along with plenty of pet supply stores to buy all your essentials.
The weather in Sarasota is spectacular and with winter lows in the 50s and summers resting in the low 90s, there are 251 days of sunshine, 56 inches of rain, and it no snow in sight. You can walk your pup virtually any day of the year or even every day if you don’t mind carrying an umbrella!
What is the terrain like in Terrace Gardens?
The terrain here is quite suburban with larger yards, quiet, tree-lined streets, and, typical of Florida, the barest minimum of sidewalks to be found. There are no hills to be seen which can make going out for a walk with your pooch a little on the boring side, but only if you let it be that way!
The good news is that you can take your pup out on the grass in Payne Park directly to the west. But if you want to stick to the pavement until your pooch gets used to behaving on your walks, try varying up the routes you take. Your dog can become bored just as much as you can, but by changing the blocks you walk around, changing the direction you go at the end of your driveway, or even changing the time of day the time of day, you can help make walking the streets a little less boring.
How many greenways are there in Terrace Gardens?
Terrace Gardens is a delightfully shady neighborhood with several tree-lined streets. Directly to the west lies Payne Park where there is plenty of grass for you and your dog to run around on and get a little extra exercise and fun time. There is a large area of grass to the south by the railroad track but exercise caution around trains.
If you are up for the drive, you can cruise out by the marina. There, you will find the Steigerwaldt or Jockey Children's Fountain, Bayfront Park, and Island Park where dogs are more than welcome. The Marina Jack Trail runs all the way around the park complex, giving you a fantastic view of the bay and the marina as the two of you take your stroll. There is plenty of grass all over the area for you and your hound to run around and play on, just remember that they have to be on a leash.
