Wag! Walkers know Land Lackey Estates
Land Lackey Estates is a small subdivision in South Tampa made up of newer two-story homes which only seems to be popular on Florida's west coast. It is a tranquil, modern community with sidewalks throughout and plenty of grass along the streets for you and your dog to go for walks along. The one thing about this area is that if you want dog parks, pet stores, or even places to grab a bite to eat, you will need to drive to them. The neighborhood sits close to MacDill Air Force Base so you can expect to hear the roar of jet engines on a regular basis as the pilots train and prepare for deployment overseas.
Like most of Tampa, the climate is very moderate here with winter highs in the low 70s and summer highs in the low to mid-90s, making every day a good day to take your hound out for a walk.
What is the terrain like in Land Lackey Estates?
Honestly, there really isn't anything exciting about the terrain here. As a planned community, the area is exceptionally flat and boring. Going out for walks with your pooch can quickly become more of a chore than a fun time for the two of you unless you are prepared to be creative. For example: try mixing up the streets you follow, go at a different time of day, avoiding early afternoon to early evening in the summer as it is too hot for your dog to be outside walking, and look for new places to explore. You can always go play in the open area next door to the Boys and Girls Club. Take short walks some days and long ones on the other days! The idea is to make sure the two of you get the exercise you need, so try to make each walk as different and exciting as possible.
How many greenways are there in Land Lackey Estates?
The only usable green space within walking distance is the open area behind the Boys and Girls Club. Beyond this, you must be willing to hop in the car and go for a ride with your pup.
It's just a short drive over to Gadsden Park on N. Boundary St. This park boasts one of Tampa's Greenway Trails. Together, the two loops of asphalt measure 1.47 miles and take you past a large pond or around the playing fields. The park also has a large dog park area where you can let your pooch off-leash so they can run free, meet old friends, and make new ones while you sit and relax in the shade nearby.
Of course, you can also cruise over to Ballast Point Park on the east coast, but it doesn't have a separate dog park for your puppy to play in. You'll need to keep them on a leash throughout this area.
