Sperry Grove Estates is a small neighborhood in the Southeast Seminole Heights section of Tampa. It consists of single-family homes along with a barbecue restaurant and a beauty supply store. There are sidewalks for you and your pup to walk on, but you still need to be careful as traffic can be heavy at times. There are a number of chain-style restaurants in the area for those days when you don’t feel like cooking. You don’t have to go far to find a dog park as Giddens Park is just a few blocks to the west. Here you and your pup can get in a little extra play time.
Like most of the Tampa area, the weather here is wonderful, to say the least. When you have winter lows in the 70s and summer highs in the low 90s, every day is a good day to go for a walk with your dog.
When it comes to walking your dog, the terrain in Sperry Grove Estates is perhaps not the hardest you will ever hike on. It couldn't get any flatter if you used a steamroller. But, when your pup is dealing with arthritis or another medical condition, the level ground can be a blessing. The more distance you add to your walks, the healthier your pup is going to be. Remember that even though the ground might be level, you have to start out slowly and build up endurance over time. One more thing to keep in mind is that the neighborhood sits on the corner of two busy highways, so expect traffic to be heavy, thanks to nearby shops and the flea market on Hwy 41. If you decide to walk around this area at night, be sure you have a reflective vest or pants on. It could save your life and that of your pup.
Sperry Grove Estates is a small community with little in the way of green space beyond backyards. It sits in a commercial area with large parking lots, two minor highways, and a large selection of stores, tree farms, and a massive paved flea market for neighbors. When it comes to green space, you can walk or drive over to Giddens Park where there is a dog fountain and plenty of bags to clean up with. Although the park is relatively small, there is still plenty of room for your pup to run around in.
The next closest dog park is quite a drive up north to Rowlett Park where you and your pup can enjoy all that the area has to offer including an agility course and lots of grass to run around on, a concrete path to walk on, and a gazebo with picnic tables for you to keep cool under.
