Wag! Walkers know Sterlingwood
Sterlingwood is a small neighborhood in the Bayshore Beautiful area of Tampa. Homes here are with walking distance of the Bayshore Boulevard Linear Park, a 10-foot wide concrete sidewalk that runs along the shore from Platt Street at the Statue of Columbus and runs for approximately 4.5 miles to Gandy Boulevard. To the side of the walkway is the Bayshore Boulevard Greenway where your pup can trot along beside you. The community does not, however, play host to much in the way of sidewalks. When taking your pooch for a walk, you need to wear light-colored reflective clothing to stay visible. Pet stores and dog parks are handily located within a short driving distance if you prefer not to use the Linear Park. With an average of 243 days of sunshine and temperatures ranging from the 70s in the winter to the low 90s in the summer, this is a dog lover's paradise.
What is the terrain like in Sterlingwood?
If you have ever been to Tampa, then you already know that the terrain here is pretty flat. There may be a few tiny rolling hills, but they are so small you could easily be forgiven for not even noticing them. But, flat or not, both you and your pooch need the exercise of at least one good walk per day. Whining about the lack of hills to challenge you isn't going to change anything. Instead, look at this type of ground as its own kind of challenge. It's one that makes you want to come up with new directions to check out and makes you want to see how far you can push each other to go! The land may be flat, but with a little imagination, the two of you will soon be hiking all over the area together getting fit, losing weight, and most importantly, spending valuable time together.
How many greenways are there in Sterlingwood?
Within the bounds of Sterlingwood, the only green space readily at hand is the ballfields belonging to the YMCA. You and your pup may not be welcome there, but you should contact the Y to find out. On the other hand, there is the Bayshore Boulevard Linear Park that runs a full 4.5 miles for the two of you to stretch your legs on. The park has a 10-foot wide concrete path and a grass median that gives you both something to walk on comfortably.
Alternatively, you can drive over to the west side and take your pup out to Gandy Park South. The park offers a great place to go fishing, run around with your dog, or take the family out for a picnic with a stellar view of old Tampa Bay. Beyond this, there are many other parks within driving distance for you and your pup to check out.
