Ashview Heights is an Atlanta, Georgia neighborhood located on the west end of the city. The community has an elementary school, high school, and library as well as some fast food and convenience shops located on its northeast corner that can be reached on foot by area residents.

Atlanta residents experience all four seasons with hot summers, cool winters, and warm spring and fall seasons. Winters are rainy, although daytime temperatures are usually above freezing and snow does not accumulate. Icy conditions can occur when the temperature dips and precipitation occurs, so good footwear is helpful for dog walkers and a warm, waterproof jacket is a necessity. Summers are very hot and humid and heat-related illnesses can occur if you are not careful. Make sure you and your dog do not overexert yourselves on walks in the heat, stay hydrated, and find shady locations for your strolls like heavily treed greenbelts.

Ashview Heights is bordered by Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard on its east side, MLK Jr. Drive on the north, the Westside Trail on the west, and Westview Drive on its south side. Most of the area is comprised of moderate, attractive single-family homes on well-landscaped properties with lawns, trees, and gardens. The district is heavily treed and there is lots of shade in the community for summertime walks. There are some green spaces in the community as well as a small circle and triangle greenway.

There are some apartment complexes in the area and the terrain around them has some gentle hills, although they are not steep or difficult to traverse for pedestrians and pups. Some residential streets have sidewalks and some do not have separate pedestrian paths which means that dog walkers and their pets need to share the road with local traffic. Use caution and watch for vehicles when walking in this area.

The West End Trail runs along the west side and is a 3-mile long spur connecting to the West End Trail that is part of Atlanta’s 33-mile Beltline trail system. Just to the north of Ashview Heights, this trail connects to the Lionel Hampton Trail which takes you and your dog west to Mozley Park where lots of recreational facilities, trees, and open areas are situated. The trails are asphalt surfaced, wide, accessible, and used by joggers, cyclists, and inline skaters, so be aware and considerate of other users by keeping your dog on a leash and cleaning up after your pet.

Just south of Ashview Heights is Dean Rusk Park and West End Park. Dean Rusk Park has a lake, trees, open areas, and paved trails around the area for dog walkers. Alternatively, West End Park, which is slightly smaller, has tennis courts, a playground, and more paved walkways to enjoy with your pup.
