Atlanta residents experience all four seasons with hot summers, cool winters, and warm spring and fall seasons. Winters are rainy, although daytime temperatures are usually above freezing and snow does not accumulate. Icy conditions can occur when the temperature dips and precipitation occurs, so good footwear is helpful for dog walkers and a warm, waterproof jacket is a necessity. Summers are very hot and humid and heat-related illnesses can occur if you are not careful. Make sure you and your dog do not overexert yourselves on walks in the heat, stay hydrated, and find shady locations for your strolls like heavily treed greenbelts.
There are some apartment complexes in the area and the terrain around them has some gentle hills, although they are not steep or difficult to traverse for pedestrians and pups. Some residential streets have sidewalks and some do not have separate pedestrian paths which means that dog walkers and their pets need to share the road with local traffic. Use caution and watch for vehicles when walking in this area.
Just south of Ashview Heights is Dean Rusk Park and West End Park. Dean Rusk Park has a lake, trees, open areas, and paved trails around the area for dog walkers. Alternatively, West End Park, which is slightly smaller, has tennis courts, a playground, and more paved walkways to enjoy with your pup.
