Atlanta is known to be one of the largest residential and commercial areas in the state with the third biggest downtown area. It claims to be the all-time favorite from the local people. The close proximity of Oakland City to downtown Atlanta makes the neighborhood one of the most up and coming areas in the region. The neighborhood is home to plenty of puppy-friendly amenities from pet care stores to parks including nature trails and large green fields.

The weather in Oakland city is much like that of the rest of Atlanta. Owing to the subtropical location of the state of Georgia, the area experiences hot, humid summers and short, mild winters. This is great if you and your pup like to hang around in the sunny outdoors!

The neighborhood is known for its classic Atlanta architecture and historic homes. These date back to when it was its own city in 1894, lending to its name Oakland City, but later given to Atlanta in the early 1900s. The classic Atlanta home sits back from the road with colorfully painted wooden slates lining the houses. The old style wooden brick bungalows are a must see and play a massive role in the history of the neighborhood. This makes the area somewhat balanced between the fresh natural feel of the peppered placed trees and the urbanized residential sense of Atlanta.

The neighborhood of Oakland City is rather flat, making it the ideal place to have a walk with your four-legged friend. The topography has played a major role in the design of the Atlanta road system. The streets here are set out like the classic American blocks, making it easy to stroll in the area.

The Rev. James Orange Park at Oakland City is a well known and popular park of the local community. Much in keeping with the historical sense of the area, the park is now again the focal point of the neighborhood. 2015 marked the opening of the new activity center, making the park not only family-friendly, but providing plenty of paved out footpaths and open spaces which are great for that all-important dog walk.

To the north of the neighborhood is what the community simply calls the 'Outdoor Activity Center'. This greenway is a 26-acre urban reserve set up for adventure! Sticking to its forest roots, the green space is densely populated with trees and vegetation. Footpaths wind through the woodland carving out two miles of trails for the adventurous and the dog walkers! The park focuses on education about ecology and the natural environment, welcoming everyone from children to adults with pups of any shape and size.
