Top dog walkers in Ala Moana
Wag! Walkers know Ala Moana
Ala Moana is an intriguing blend of single-family homes, multi-family rental units, and towering hotels. Like most of Honolulu, much of this area is given over to tourism, including the beautiful beaches. Does this mean you shouldn't walk your dog here? Absolutely not! The streets are lined with sidewalks that are wide enough for the two of you to walk along and some even have grass strips where your puppy can keep their feet just a little cooler. There are several pet stores, dog parks, and places to eat within walking distance. The beach is just down the road, no matter where you live in the neighborhood.
Keep in mind as you go walking with your pup that the traffic tends to be very heavy in this area thanks to so many tourists. Be sure to look in both directions before you cross any streets and wear bright clothing that is sure to get you noticed.
What is the terrain like in Ala Moana?
This particular area of Honolulu is quite flat with the mountains far in the background. Most of the terrain here is concrete and tarmac which leads to finding different ways to make your walks unique each day. The only thing you can try is walking different blocks, extending your walks on some days, and keeping them shorter on others.
There are greenways and parks in the area you can use to jazz up your outings and give your puppy green grass to walk on. Once you and your pup have built up some stamina and muscle, you can head off to the mountains for more challenging hikes that will take you high enough to be able to look out over the tops of the towering hotels and see the crystal-clear waters without tourists getting in the way. What better way to spend time with your dog while at the same time getting in some healthy exercise?
How many greenways are there in Ala Moana?
Throughout the Ala Moana area, there are several dog-friendly parks for you and Fido to explore. Most are small, but at least they have some grass for the two of you to romp around on. But if you want plenty of room to spread out, you might want to head over to Magic Island. At one point, this spit of land was to be developed into a resort complex, but this never happened. Instead, the entire area was turned into a park. Magic Island was renamed to Aina Moana, but virtually no one, not even those who call the area home, uses this name. The park features acres of grass, plenty of walking trails, and its own protected beach to play on. Until recently, there was a homeless encampment on the island, but the city has recently removed the camp and cleaned the area up, making it safer for you and your pooch to play in.
