Calumet Heights, located on the south side of Chicago, is one of the city's 77 major neighborhoods and is comprised of the Stony Island Heights and Pill Hill neighborhoods. The Advocate Trinity Hospital lies in the southern part of the neighborhood bordering railroad tracks. The neighborhood is also home to the Bronzeville Children's Museum: the first and only African-American children's museum in the country.

Almost the entire neighborhood consists of residential buildings, particularly single-family homes. Most of the businesses in Calumet Heights are along South Stony Hill Avenue up to where it and East 87th Street intersect. The Pet Salon, a pet grooming store, is about a 10-minute walk north of the neighborhood. Calumet Heights is a quieter working-class neighborhood that offers a mix of busy business roads and blocks of peaceful residential streets. You and your dog will find an idyllic place to explore while out for a walk in this neighborhood.

Most of the neighborhood consists of residential streets. The tree-lined sidewalks feature grassy areas if you need to stop during your walk and the South Stony Hill Avenue has a grassy medium accessible by crossing the street. These areas are well-manicured and feature pretty foliage, shrubbery, and flowers to enjoy while out with your pup on your daily outing.

There aren't any major hills in the neighborhood, but some of the streets do have an incline. Calumet Heights spans about 1.7 square miles, giving you much to explore during your walk. The southern border is railroad tracks and the eastern border is the Chicago Skyway. While there are borders protecting you from the tracks and the highway, passing cars and trains might be frightening to your pup so exercise caution. There are plenty of other locations throughout Calumet Heights that your dog will enjoy, from several peaceful parks to the quiet streets.

There are several green spaces that you can happen upon with your dog. The biggest is Jesse Owens Park located in the northern part of the neighborhood just off East 87th Street. This 17-acre park features a field house, nature garden, multiple athletic fields, and shaded picnic areas. There is a path that cuts through the park so that you can spectate different games while walking your dog. On the opposite side of Calumet Heights is Dougherty Park: a large grassy space with a softball field open for families to enjoy. Pets are allowed to enjoy the park as well as long as they're on a leash.

Also in the southern area of the community is a large green space with walking paths on a nearby school's campus near Stony Island Ridge. The ridge was a natural limestone table that stood nearly 20 feet above the surrounding land that early explorers used as a landmark.
