Almost the entire neighborhood consists of residential buildings, particularly single-family homes. Most of the businesses in Calumet Heights are along South Stony Hill Avenue up to where it and East 87th Street intersect. The Pet Salon, a pet grooming store, is about a 10-minute walk north of the neighborhood. Calumet Heights is a quieter working-class neighborhood that offers a mix of busy business roads and blocks of peaceful residential streets. You and your dog will find an idyllic place to explore while out for a walk in this neighborhood.
There aren't any major hills in the neighborhood, but some of the streets do have an incline. Calumet Heights spans about 1.7 square miles, giving you much to explore during your walk. The southern border is railroad tracks and the eastern border is the Chicago Skyway. While there are borders protecting you from the tracks and the highway, passing cars and trains might be frightening to your pup so exercise caution. There are plenty of other locations throughout Calumet Heights that your dog will enjoy, from several peaceful parks to the quiet streets.
Also in the southern area of the community is a large green space with walking paths on a nearby school's campus near Stony Island Ridge. The ridge was a natural limestone table that stood nearly 20 feet above the surrounding land that early explorers used as a landmark.
